QA Automation Engineer

We are looking for an experienced QA Automation Engineer to help design and build test automation for our content management platform. This is a hands-on role for someone who can both architect an automation strategy and write the scripts themselves, while also leveraging AI tools and third-party utilities to accelerate testing efforts.

· Hourly based, will begin as part time but might grow to full time

· Team is working in Toronto time zone, so part of the workday will have to be shifted

About the System

· Content management platform serving end users across multiple channels

· Client-side: React Native

· Server-side: Python, Node.js

· Database: PostgreSQL

· Infrastructure: Hosted on AWS

· Target platforms: iOS, Android, and Web

· Network conditions: Must perform reliably on LTE cellular networks, with particular attention to relatively low data throughput and lower-end/less powerful devices

Responsibilities

· Design and implement a test automation strategy and framework covering iOS, Android, and Web

· Write, maintain, and execute automated test scripts (sanity, functional, and scenario-based)

· Simulate real user workflows and specific usage scenarios across platforms

· Measure and monitor application performance and response times during test execution

· Run and validate tests under constrained network conditions (LTE, low bandwidth) and on lower-spec devices

· Evaluate and integrate AI-assisted testing tools and free/open-source third-party automation tools into the workflow

· Collaborate closely with developers and product stakeholders to define test coverage and quality gates

· Report and track defects, performance bottlenecks, and reliability issues found during testing

Initial Priorities

· Build and run sanity test suites: page/screen load verification across platforms

· Simulate user flows for defined key scenarios

· Capture performance and response-time metrics during test execution

· Ensure test coverage runs consistently across iOS, Android, and Web

Requirements

· 3+ years of experience as a QA Automation Engineer, including designing automation frameworks from scratch

· Strong scripting/coding skills for building and maintaining automated tests

· Experience testing mobile apps (iOS and Android) as well as Web applications

· Familiarity with performance and response-time testing/measurement

· Experience testing under real-world network constraints (e.g., LTE, throttled bandwidth) and on lower-end devices

· Working knowledge of, or strong interest in, AI-assisted testing tools

· Comfortable working with free/open-source third-party testing and automation tools

· Good communication skills and English level

· Experience with content management systems

· Experience with CI/CD integration for automated test pipelines

· Background in mobile performance profiling
