Description

Senior DevOps / Cloud Engineer

About our Partner
Algebra is an early-stage AI startup building human-governed agentic AI systems that automate complex business operations. The company combines LLMs, workflow orchestration, and human oversight to help enterprises move from manual processes to AI-driven operational workflows while maintaining transparency and control.
Their main areas:

  • Map existing business workflows

  • Build AI-powered workflows tailored to each client

  • Operate and continuously optimize those workflows

  • Keep humans involved in approvals and exception handling

  • Emphasize auditability and avoiding "black-box" decision-making

The Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior DevOps / Cloud Engineer to own and evolve our cloud infrastructure end-to-end. You will be the go-to expert for everything Cloud — from architecting resilient, cost-efficient environments to driving engineering culture around reliability, automation, and security. This is a high-impact, high-ownership role that sits at the intersection of platform engineering, security, and developer experience.

Requirements

Required Skills & Qualifications
▸ 8+ years of hands-on DevOps and cloud engineering experience.
▸ Work will primarily be in Azure and AWS, however GCP experience is a big nice-to-have
▸ Core services: Deep AWS/Azure (GCP) expertise across core services:

  •  Compute

  • Networking

  • Data & Storage

  • Security

▸ Proven infrastructure-as-code fluency in Terraform, with production-grade module libraries.
▸ Strong proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Bash, or Go) for automation and tooling.
▸ Demonstrated experience managing containerised workloads with Kubernetes at scale.
▸ Hands-on CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or equivalent — including environment
promotion and blue/green deployments.
▸ Solid understanding of networking fundamentals: DNS, TLS, HTTP/2, BGP basics, and zero-trust
principles.
▸ Fluency in English (written and spoken) — you will regularly produce technical documentation, RFCs, and present to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do
▸ Design, build, and maintain scalable AWS/Azure/GCP infrastructure across multiple accounts and environments (dev, staging, production). We insist on using AI coding agents to gain speed; the code
produced will be reviewed/approved by you.
▸ Own the full CI/CD pipeline lifecycle — from source control integrations to automated testing, deployment, and rollback strategies.
▸ Implement and enforce cloud security best practices: IAM policies, secrets management, network
segmentation, compliance controls (for example, SOC 2, ISO 27001).
▸ Define and monitor SLOs/SLAs through comprehensive observability stacks (metrics, logs, traces) using
tools such as Datadog, Grafana, or AWS/Azure/GCP-native services.
▸ Lead infrastructure-as-code efforts using Terraform or CDK, ensuring all environments are reproducible and version-controlled.
▸ Drive cost optimization initiatives — rightsizing, reserved instances, savings plans, and waste reduction — with full accountability over cloud spend.
▸ Collaborate with engineering teams to improve developer experience: self-service tooling, faster build
times, reliable local environments.
▸ Respond to and lead post-mortems for production incidents, building lasting remediations and runbooks.
▸ Mentor junior engineers and champion DevOps culture across the wider engineering organization.

Nice to Have

Nice to Have
▸ AWS/Azure/GCP certification(s): Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Engineer Professional, or
Security Specialty.
▸ Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud architectures.
▸ Familiarity with service mesh technologies (Istio, App Mesh) and eBPF-based observability.
▸ Background in platform engineering: Internal Developer Platforms (IDP), Backstage, or similar.
▸ Prior experience at a high-growth SaaS or fintech company with strict compliance requirements.
